FORGIVENESS LETTER (Adapted from John Grey, PhD) Step I Telling it Like it is Letter You are going to write to the person, institution or entity with whom you are stuck. This letter can be to another person, to yourself, a part of your body, to God, to a hospital, to “cancer”, etc. Imagine that you can say whatever you like and that he/she, or it will listen from the “Higher Self”, with love and compassion. Write down all of your feelings. Be sure that you completely release everything. Don’t hold back. You can’t let go of thoughts or feelings that you don’t own up to. Dear: I am angry that----- I am sad that ------- I am hurt that----- I feel guilty that----- I regret that ------- I am fearful that----- Sign it …(your name) Step 2 The Response Letter The person or entity to whom you wrote is going to respond to your letter. You will write the response that you would most like to hear. Remember, the letter is coming from his/her or “its” Higher Self. Dear (your name) ‘write the response’ Signature Step 3 Forgiveness Letter This is a letter expressing either your forgiveness or your amends. If you aren’t yet ready to bring closure, to this grievance, tell him/her or “it” that you intend to continue to work with forgiveness.
